Important to know

When installing shocks on '86-'15 XL models, modifying or spacing the chain/belt guard may be necessary for proper clearance. A shock slightly longer than stock may alter the head angle for quicker steering, while a shorter shock may result in slower steering. Heavy-duty applications are recommended for bikes operated near the manufacturer's maximum load rating over 50% of the time. Before purchasing shocks of a different length than OEM, verify that wheel travel alterations won't cause clearance issues, such as swingarm/axle to exhaust contact or chain/belt guard or tire contact.
